Crowds can become overwhelming during peak hours—especially on Saturday nights when the pub reaches full capacity. The heightened noise levels during these times may detract from conversation for some patrons. A few visitors have noted the limited outdoor seating, especially when the weather is nice, leading to instances where finding a spot can be challenging. Some diners have critiqued the wait for food during busy periods, as the kitchen can struggle to keep up with demand. Additionally, while the atmosphere is generally lively and friendly, some newcomers feel slightly lost amid regulars, which can impact their initial experience. Lastly, the limited menu options during certain themed events have drawn mixed feedback, leaving some guests craving more variety.
Super friendly pub in rugby town centre. Great staff, vast array of beers ales and ciders, great wine glasses. They're super dog friendly. And now they're doing Sunday dinners (subject to dates) I only had a beef cob but ohhhh yeah it was tasty as!
Billed as the Rugby pub. This place is charming and had a huge selection of cask beers when we visited. I asked if this was normal or a festival. The barman explained that it was indeed the normal amount. Wow. The decoration on the ceiling should have tipped me off with hundreds of pump clips from breweries all over attached. The vibe was excellent, the rugby was indeed on, but the clientele was a mix of rugby fans and locals. Plenty of seating. Quick friendly service and very near the town centre. With the variety of cask on offer it's a no brainer
Great place to grab a drink in Rugby, lovely staff, and helped with a special event - cordoned off area of the pub (even on a busy Saturday) and massively helped with the organisation and logistics. Good rotating list of ciders and cask beers (local and further afield) as well as selection of interesting bottled beers, and many other choices. Also do a lot of themed events.
The Merchant Inn, Rugby is an interesting pub, extensive and well laid out with plenty of tables and seating. Has a nice outdoor seating area. It's all about the beer, with a great range of guest ales, cider and niche foreign brews. Have regular special events, like a cider festival in late August.
What a welcoming pub to shelter from the 🌧️ and dry off by the roaring coal fire. Crammed full of pub memorabilia and quality cask ales along with a great collection of European bottled beers. Fabulous barman who sorts out my itinerary of where else to visit later on. There’s an interesting outdoor drinking area to take advantage of when the weather bucks up.
Really good real ale pub , with a really good selection of beers when we were there The bar man even offered us one straight from the cask as it hadn’t been out yet Definitely return if we were in the area
If you love beer, go here. Best place for beer in Rugby and surrounding areas. My brewer-husband described the beer as ‘exceptional’ and ‘well kept’. The wine selection was a disappointing - I had a very acidic French chardonnay, and they don’t do coca-cola behind the bar, just a very herbal Fevertree Cola. The place is impressively decorated inside with beer memorabilia, and they play sports on a large projector screen.
